Title: The Wrong Kind of Love
Author: Lexi Ryan
Series: The Boys of Jackson Harbor #1
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ☆☆☆☆
My first venture into Jackson Harbor was a great one. I loved the storylines of both main characters, and how they overcome some pretty heavy trauma together. There’s this instant connection between Nic and Ethan, and that’s tested when she becomes his daughter’s live-in Nanny. Due to Nic’s twin sister Veronica shamefully ruining what Nic had hoped to be her happily ever after in her hometown, Nic takes Veronica’s identity for a bit in her quick escape to Jackson Harbor - for reasons that make sense when you’re reading it (not the greatest reason, but you can understand it). This puts Nic and Ethan - who both thought their one night of amazing chemistry was going to be it - into forced proximity. Of course, they battle the angst of their situation and end up hooking up, realising what they have is worth the risks, and wrap this world up in a sweet ending that all small-town romances seem to have. The romance is pretty steamy and plays in the forefront for a good portion of this book. It’s tastefully done, and since this was my first Lexi Ryan romance, I was surprised by her writing skill of it - I come into her writing world from her YA Fantasy, and wanted to check out what else she’s written because I loved that book so much. What I liked about this cliche-ish storyline was that they both seemed real enough as characters and fitted together seamlessly. I will say the last attempt at angst in this story was unnecessary. They’re both adult enough to have solved that faster than it was. Though the reconciliation was very sweet. I also loved learning more about the Jackson family, and the way they make a family feel like a warm, inviting hug you don’t want to step out of.
