This had the potential to be so much more. I feel a lot of this book was spent in the wrong areas of the plot and not focused on the really interesting parts. There was a lot of stalling explaining what Rich really did to Teagan to make her scared of him, and I lost some interest along the way. Out of all the books in this series, this one felt the longest to get through. Maybe that’s because I read this series back to back, and by this book, I was a little jaded and losing my Jackson Harbor sparkle, and because of the aforementioned above. I had also waited to get to Carter and Teagan’s story for so long, and when it started out as well as it had, well, I was disappointed the longer I read on. I was more interested in Carter’s hardships than Teagan’s. His survivor’s guilt and subsequent manwhoring was quite an interesting coping mechanism that I wished had more time spent on. I also liked his relationship with Isaiah and enjoyed every moment with the teen. It’s a shame that this storyline took a bit of a back burner to all of Teagan’s issues. Admittedly, I had loved Teagan so much as the sassy friend of Nic and Shay and was eager for that to continue. And whilst I was appreciative of her scars and her journey, she definitely lost some of herself in this novel for me. Thankfully, she’s back to being her great side-character self in Shay’s installment, but in her own, I didn’t enjoy her as much. I loved her and Carter together, I think they made a great match. But with the external angst of her family/past trauma, I found their love story far too messy and all over the place. I knew one of Carter’s take-home partners was going to end up biting him and Teagan in the butt with their whole fake-dating scheme in this story, but gosh, she was nasty and just so chaotic. I also didn’t like how the blowup with Rich was glossed over when it was said and done and that there weren’t more repercussions after spending SO MUCH OF THE BOOK talking about him. One thing that REALLY annoyed me was this book ended with the same trope as the last book ended with, and honestly, I was so done that I actually rolled my eyes. This dropped the book down to just average to me, and I am disappointed by that as I was expecting their novel to be my favourite.
