**Thank you to BookSirens and the author for a copy of this ARC. These are my honest thoughts.**

When I read the synopsis of this book, I thought I'd have a light-hearted and funny read ahead of me. I also thought a lot more time would be spent inside the cake since it was a huge part of the plot shared for this world. Alas, the cake scene was over rather quickly. And that's what happened with the funny, light-hearted feels in this world too.

Both Nolan and Erin have had a tough time with love. Erin had a possessive partner, and Nolan struggles with self-worth after being compared to his father negatively and chooses to date people who he felt he "deserved". They equally didn't want to find love again any time soon, but they had an instant connection with one another. The time spent with both Erin and Nolan was cute at most points in the first half of this book. There was some further humorous moments with the bakery and miscommunicated requests, which I felt was going to lead to this fun and happy little relationship building between them. Sadly, instead of building their relationship up in a way that wasn't fast-paced and a bit more believable, the focus of the problematic exes really became more of the story's main journey. There was no trigger warning attached aside from sex on BookSirens, so I was surprised when stalking, harassment and some really serious breaches of privacy occurred. What disappointed me further was that whilst both Erin and Nolan battled this and did come out on top and get their HEA, the whole process of said battle was summed up in the epilogue. There was some initial setup for this during the angst of their separation, but it felt hastily done and then completely glossed over.

The side characters saved this book for me. I loved Granny V and Alana a great deal, but since this book was about Erin and Nolan, it was a shame to see them fall apart and become unrealistic. There was also a lot of time that passed by in this novel, which normally doesn't bother me, but some scenarios could have been better approached during that time, rather than the next chapter stating time had passed and what had happened. A lot of this book, both what happened and the depth of their relationship is told rather than experienced alongside the characters.

All in all, I'm confused about where the funny, cute and light-hearted romance had to go. I liked the mishaps and the humour when it was occurring. But the unexpected darkness of this book made me drop it down to 3 stars.
