Title: Dream Of You
Author: Jennifer L Armentrout
Series: Wait For You #4.5
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: ☆☆☆☆
Although I despise instalove, I liked this little novella with Colton and Abby. This is a second chance romance, where both characters went to the same high school, and both crushed on the other but weren’t able to connect until much later on in life. I really liked both characters (I may or may not have been giggling manically at Colton’s flirty ways in the beginning), and despite how fast they were to move along in their relationship and with the I love you’s, I felt like their connection made sense and enjoyed their progression to intimate lovers. Colton was such an unashamed flirt with Abby, which I didn’t expect at all from the snippets we’ve had of Detective Anders throughout the Wait For You series. But I quite liked it (insert more school-girl giggling here). I liked that he told Abby how he felt about her and pushed her boundaries on her lack of body confidence. I also appreciated that he didn’t let her get away with making him feel like crap when her self-doubt crept up. Abby for me, as someone who also struggles with my body’s appearance, was very relatable. I mean, so much of us read these books about god-tier men and think, “we’ll never have luck with someone like that”, so her disbelief that Colton wanted her made sense to me. I loved watching her come to terms with who she was and what she’s been through in that body of hers to get to a place where she’s happy to be at Colton’s side and love him. The introduction of Jillian as Abby’s friend was a good touch, and I look forward to how that pans out in Brock’s book with her. The subplot about the murder Abby witnessed and how it wrapped into this world was sadly a bit lost in the romance/relationship stuff. I enjoyed it, but I just found it too conflicting with what the author was trying to set up. Colton bouncing between lover and cop didn’t flow nearly as well as I expected it would. Hence, why I only rated this as 4 stars - and with instalove involved, that’s a pretty good rating from me, lol.
